The hand I lay across your face was forgiveness
The tongue I wrapped around your throat wants an answer
The blade you turned around on yourself was the distance
The yard is scarred with the colored poles of swing sets
Limbs seem to hang from the purple trees at sunset
Burned in the ground is the voice you left on your headset
We soar like leaves above the trees and the gutter
The sandstone is white but time feels like no other
Into the calm your heart beats a storm and it’s rainin’
Cars hit their brakes but leave too much wake for dreamin’
Each drop of rain fights for a lane and your grievin’
What’s left of your mind begs to find a reason
Limbs seem to hang from the purple trees at sunset
Burned in the ground is the voice you left on your headset
We soar like leaves above the trees and the gutter
The sandstone is white but time feels like another
The hand that I lay across your face was forgiveness
The blade that you turned around on yourself was the distance
